I feel very strongly about this one. I also know that while the message sounds simple, it actually requires a lot of hard work. It takes time to feel comfortable being yourself, and perhaps more importantly, to appreciate and love yourself. We live in a world overflowing with opportunities to compare ourselves with other people. Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, you name it.
I read an interview with Kylie Jenner, arguably the most successful woman in the Kardashian empire, and one of the biggest stars of the moment. King Kylie has 12.5 million Instagram followers, and she looks cool and glamorous in every photo she posts. But you know what? She wakes up with severe anxiety every morning. And she hates wearing makeup and dressing up. “There is absolutely a side of me that people don’t know,” she says to Interview Magazine. “I’m not myself on Snapchat or Instagram. That’s totally not me…I feel like that’s what people want to see…People want to see my cars and my purses. I love fashion. But that’s so not me.”
It looks like her social media is a natural extension of her glam life and that she’s just being silly Kylie, having fun in vines and taking pictures of herself before going out. But that’s not her true self. She’s behind that screen, living a real life, building a business and dealing with anxiety.
The more you get to know yourself, and the more you accept who you are, the stronger you become. And the more easily you can realize and actualize your potential. Because it’s in there. So, this December, let’s try to be ourselves and support others for being themselves. Weaknesses, flaws, and all. A #makeupfreeselfie for the soul. Are you up for the challenge?

I love this post. A great reminder for everyone – no matter their age or place in life. And all hail the make-up-free selfies! 🙂
