Today, I was inspired.
No, it wasn’t Obama. And no, it wasn’t the onset of spring and the plethora of baby geese I’ve seen waddling all over town.
Wild Harvest Organic Animal Crackers have driven me to start a blog in order to tell you how delicious they are. I should know. I just inhaled 1/2 a bag in about 3 minutes.
You should of course watch the portion sizing more than I have- just put 10 animals in individual plastic bags for healthy snacking without the temptation to overindulge. (Thanks to J.F.) They’re made with organic wheat flour (note that it’s not WHOLE wheat flour, so it’s better than white flour but isn’t packing the nutritional powerhouse punch that the wheat endosperm delivers). They don’t have any corn derivatives (just look at your nutrition labels once in a while- it’s in everything!), trans fats, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. They’ve got that wheaty crunch you either love or hate and grow to love (you will- just keep trying to incorporate more whole grains into your diet and you’ll get used to it).
I’ll call a spade a spade here- they’re not the healthiest snack you’re going to find. They do have 5g of Fat per serving and 140 calories, but they’re made without a lot of the artificial ingredients you’ll find in other snacks. It’ll hit your sweet tooth, but stick with the serving size and let it be an occasional treat- not a routine snack.
It’s also certified kosher and has the USDA Organic stamp. Just as an aside, the only legitimate, government regulated organic seal of approval is the circle that’s half green and half white and says “USDA Organic” on it. If you see other lables touting organic, they’re the brainchild of a marketing company and are not certified organic – don’t be fooled.
Happy Snacking!
