Did you know? If you’re eating figs in the U.S., it’s likely they’ve come from California, which grows 98% of the nation’s fresh figs (and 100% of the dried ones). The most common varieties are the golden, mildly nutty Calimyrna and the purple, sweet Mission. Go Cali!
And a note on storage: You can refrigerate figs for up to a week, but if you bought too many, freeze them and toss into hot oatmeal and smoothies, or turn them into a sauce or jam during the winter months.
Oh, and one more thing…I want to share my recent fig snack with you because it was crazy good and the simplest thing ever. I posted it on my Instagram page, where I post my recipes and snacks:
Fresh Figs with Cheese and Honey on Rye Crisps:

(I think crumbled pistachios would be a wonderful addition)

Ohhh these recipes all look amazing! I love figs but have never cooked with them. They intimidate me a little 🙂 I’ll have to try one of these though! Maybe I’ll start with the burrata and work my way up to bars!
